Dear Bart,

Welcome to our new subscribers!

Anyone who's visited the Warrior Pages over the last couple of days has seen we are going through some growing pains. These issues have been temporarily addressed and we are working on more permanent solutions. Regardless, the new content just keeps on coming.

in this issue
  • News and Notes
  • Donga (Nguni Stick Fighting)
  • Lines of Attack
  • TAO TEH CHING, Chapter 78

  • Donga (Nguni Stick Fighting)

Donga is a martial art focusing on weapon’s use, which was commonly practiced by Nguni herd boys in South Africa.

Traditionally the art is practiced with 2 long sticks, one in each hand, one serving for offence, the other for defence. The object being: to inflict pain upon the opponent by striking him.

Currently people are trying to nationalize the sport and make it more popular by adding set rules and regulations, as well as competitions.

    Lines of Attack

    By Rathryn Ramos

Lines of attack are readily apparent when in combination with a sword or other weapon, but technically the same principle applies to unarmed attacks, as the weapon is basically merely an extension of the arm and thus of the damage, a lot of people seem to forget this however.

    TAO TEH CHING, Chapter 78

    Nothing in the world is softer and weaker than water;
But, for attacking the hard and strong, there is nothing like it!
For nothing can take its place.
That the weak overcomes the strong, and the soft overcomes the hard,
This is something known by all, but practiced by none.

    Therefore, the Sage says:
To receive the dirt of a country is to be the lord of its soil-shrines.
To bear the calamities of a country is to the prince of the world.
Indeed, Truth sounds like its opposite!

    News and Notes

Just when I think I don't have time to add any more content, others step up to my rescue. Thanks to the help of Rathryn Ramos and Tashi Price, there is still new content to report.

As the Martial Arts' section expands, classification of martial arts has been something of an issue. For example, I have listed Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a Western Art, but I listed Shuri-Ryu Karate as a Japanese Art. Both were founded by Westerners, so which is right?
