  • Malele's Music

    If you've seen any of the videos on the Warrior Pages, then you've heard Malele Nzeza's music. In addition to being a fourth degree black belt in Shuri Ryu Karate, Malele's an outstanding composer and musician. He's also a good friend and allowed me to use his music to enhance the videos, many of which he is featured in.

    Visit his web site to hear more. Click the picture or link below. To see the "martial" side of this artist, click here.

    Training Tip (Shower Kata)

    Too often, while learning a new form, we waste valuable floor time relearning the basic form. Instead, practice the form at least once a day. This can be done anywhere (yes, including the shower). Just practice the form with abbreviated movements and stances. Running it in your head can be just as, if not more, effective. This way, your time in the dojo will be better spent improving your technique and working the kata as it was intended, rather than just relearning what you've already been taught.

    TAO TEH CHING, Chapter 66

    HOW does the sea become the king of all streams?
    Because it lies lower than they!
    Hence it is the king of all streams.

    Therefore, the Sage reigns over the people by humbling himself in speech;
    And leads the people by putting himself behind.

    Thus it is that when a Sage stands above the people, they do not feel the heaviness of his weight;
    And when he stands in front of the people, they do not feel hurt.
    Therefore all the world is glad to push him forward without getting tired of him.

    Just because he strives with nobody,
    Nobody can ever strive with him.

    News and Notes

    Like many of you, the holidays kept us busy here at the Warrior Pages, so not a lot of new substance. There have been some formatting improvements, they look great on our screens, but please let us know if they cause any difficulties on your computers.

    The forum continues to heat up. Lots of good discussions. Check it out, here's an example of a post under "Striking Arts":

    "In theory the fist has more potential to cause damage by the fact that the knuckles are hard and small. However, this cuts both ways and means you can easily end up worse by hitting the face at the wrong angle.

    Agree with the above posts that punches are best directed to the soft areas of the body eg solar plexus, attacking the bicep etc.

    I also think another advantage of the open hand is that the relaxation you get by not clenching the fist means you can deliver the strike faster."
